Added in Apple iOS 10.2

Frequently asked questions

What changed in Apple iOS 10.2?

Compared with iOS 10.0, Apple iOS 10.2 added 449 new emoji and redrew 1627 existing designs.

How is a redesign told apart from a re-release?

By the artwork itself. Every image is stored with a checksum of its bytes, so a design counts as redrawn only when those bytes differ from iOS 10.0. A version number cannot tell you this — most releases ship the same drawings unchanged.
